The number of teams in the Bowls Loughborough leagues continues to increase. Season 2024 sees the welcome return of Sileby Finches to the Monday league along with an additional team Quorn Thatchers. The ladies Tuesday league welcome Birstall ladies whilst Keyworth Cats have registered for the Men’s Thursday league. We wish each of the new teams every success in their new venture.
East Leake have entered a second team into the Men’s Monday league for 2023 season. They will be known as THISTLES and will play in Division 4
New Lount Hares have withdrawn from the Men’s Thursday Division 1 for season 2023
Belgrave Ringers have informed the League that they are unable to fulfill their fixtures for season 2022 and have therefore withdrawn from Monday Division 4.
All clubs due to play Ringers, will have a BYE.
Please be aware that the Ladies Friday evening league have amended their fixtures from that agreed at the AGM. The league will now revert to teams playing each other once only giving nine games plus a bye. The season will commence on 6th May and run for nine weeks.
The AGM for 2021-22 season will take place on 15th November 2021 at Loughborough Phoenix Bowls Club commencing at 7.00pm followed by the presentation of trophies.
All fixtures for 2021 season are now on the web site. A shorter season has been agreed and will commence on Thursday 24th June and Friday 25th June. The Monday and Ladies Tuesday leagues will start on 28th and 29th June respectively.
In the Monday, Tuesday and Friday leagues , teams will play their opponents only once during the season.
The Thursday league will see a significant change for this season only. This will involve each match having two rinks at home and two rinks away. The first named team on the fixture list will be deemed the home team and will be responsible for sending in the completed match result card, checked and signed by both team captains.
All leagues will continue to be three wood triples and play 18 ends. No trial ends.
Please have an enjoyable season and continue to be safe and cautious.
A number of clubs have been asking about the arrangements for the forthcoming season now that the Government have released the road map for recovery. Whilst the road map states that outdoor sports can resume from 29th March we still await “Return to Play” guidance from Bowls England, including format of games allowed, resources and best practice to support the safe running of clubs and games, shared travelling in cars to and from games, use of full/partial clubhouse facilities etc. before we can formulate our playing policy for the coming season.
As soon as we have this information from Bowls England and Bowls Leics, we will issue a set of fixtures. Whilst many players hope for a full season of games, we may have to resort to a “part” season dependant on the outcome from Bowls England’s guidance notes. Clubs with teams in any of the leagues are asked to confirm to the Secretary or myself if they have any amendments to the number of teams they are entering if it is different to last season.
In the mean time, stay safe.

Bowls Loughborough Leagues and Competitions 2020
Having reviewed both the Government and Bowls England guidelines in relation to bowls and the current COVID-19 situation, the decision has been taken to cancel all Bowls Loughborough league fixtures and competitions for 2020 season.
Whilst we recognise that a number of clubs have opened for social bowls and introduced their own guidelines for their members in line with Bowls England recommendations, there are still a number of clubs who have remained closed at this point in time and we respect the decisions of each club to open or remain closed.
We appreciate that this is not the way we saw the 2020 season panning out, however, we believe that the right decision has been taken for the overall well-being of our fellow bowlers and their families.
In the meantime, please stay safe and we look forward to meeting everyone out on the greens in 2021 season.
Chairman, on behalf of the Management Committee
In line with Government guidelines on social distancing, and subsequent guidelines issued by Bowls England and Bowls Leicestershire, the Bowls League Administrators have decided to cancel all of the first half of the season fixtures for all leagues (Men & Ladies) and start the season (provisionally) in July playing only the fixtures published for the second half of the season. This applies to the Men’s Monday and Thursday Leagues and the Ladies Tuesday Morning League. In the case of the Ladies Friday Evening League all games scheduled for May and June are cancelled and will be added on to the end of the existing season playing them in August and September.
This decision will be reviewed in mid June when we should know more about the situation at that time.
The Champion of Champions and the Charity Cups have been cancelled for this season.
Further details of how the fixtures will play out will be issued to all League Team Contacts in the coming days.
Stay safe, look after each other and keep in touch with fellow bowlers less fortunate than you to ensure their well being.
